The library welcomes volunteers for both ongoing and occasional projects.
Ongoing need:
-
Shelving “elves” – people to be sure our books are in the correct Dewey Decimal or alphabetical order, and that the shelves are neat. Contact Jean Langley (adult section), Pat Link (children’s section), or Sandy Stafford (teen section).
-
Excellent typists to transcribe hand-written trustee minutes into computer format. Involves reading various hand-writing. Contact Jean Langley, Library Director.
-
Individuals to examine copies of newspapers for articles about the library, clipping the articles and pasting them into scrapbooks. Contact Jean Langley, Library Director, or a member of the Reference staff.
Occasional projects:
-
Help with the summer reading club registrations and check-ins. Contact Pat Link in the Children’s Room.
-
Book washers. Contact Pat Link in the Children’s Room.
-
Guest readers in an occasional storytime. Contact Pat Link in the Children's Dept.
-
Book sale helpers: set up, sales, replenishing stock, take down and clean up. Contact Friends of the Library.
-
Basket Raffle donors, ticket takers. This fundraiser usually takes place in the spring. Contact Friends of the Library or the Checkout Desk for assignment of volunteer time.
-
The Friends of the Library often have positions available, such as membership chairperson, recording secretary, book sale coordinator, and the like. Contact the President of the Friends.
Make Your Own Opportunity:
-
If you have a particular skill or talent, consider running a children’s or teen program. Teach a craft or a game; demonstrate a hobby.
-
Teach a class to adults: digital photography, cooking, using e-Bay. Talk about your travels.
-
Share your skill and time: refinish or upholster library furniture, weed and water the yard, make and distribute posters, write publicity releases.
