Please note that the hours for curbside pickup will be changing as of Monday, May 3 as the library will be reopening for limited public browsing and computer appointments. Curbside pickup will only be available by appointment during hours that the library is not open to the public, but you can always come in to the building to pick up your holds during browsing hours. What you can request:
You can request just items from Northborough or items from other CWMARS libraries as well. The statewide interlibrary loan delivery service is back up and running again! You can request specific items or ask library staff for recommendations.
You can request up to 20 items (including up to 10 DVDs and 5 video games) by phone, by email, or through your online library account. If requesting items online, please note that they will take longer to arrive if Northborough does not own the title or have it currently available. Also, items coming from other libraries will take longer to arrive than they did before March of 2020.
What we'll do with your items:
All items will be pulled by library staff wearing gloves, checked out on your account, and then placed in a paper bag with your name on it.
All items will generally be checked out 1 day before your scheduled pickup. You will receive an automatic notification that your items are ready for pick up if there is an email address associated with your library account, but you will still need to reserve a pickup time before coming to get them if you wish to use curbside pickup. The automatic ready for pick up notfication only means that your items are available, but they won't be processed and actually be "ready" for curbside pickup until you have signed up for a pickup time.
You are welcome to come in and check out your holds during our public browsing hours as well once they begin on May 3 - no appointment necessary for this!
How to pick up your items:
You will need to sign up for a time window to come to the library to pick up your items during times that the library is not open to the public. You can sign up by phone or through our online registration form.
As of Monday, May 3 the time windows for curbside pickup will be changing. Curbside pickup will only be available during times that the library is not open to the public. The following time windows will be available for curbside pickup beginning May 3:
There are several time slots available during each time window. You may come any time during the hour long time period for which you signed up to pick up your items. Any hold requests for local items must be received by 1pm the day before your desired pick up date otherwise they will not be ready for curbside pickup until the following day (i.e. requests received by 1pm on Tuesday will be available for pick up on Wednesday and any requests received after 1pm on Tuesday will be available for pick up on Thursday). For any pick ups on Mondays, requests must be received by 1pm on the Saturday before. It may take up to a couple of weeks for items from other libraries to arrive and be available for pickup.
Please sign up for your pickup time with the name that your holds are placed under. If you are planning to pick up holds for multiple family members at once, please either call (508-393-5025, x.6) or email library staff to let us know the list of names whose holds you will be picking up so we can ensure that you get all of your items.
What to do when you arrive to pick up your items:
You no longer have to call library staff to let us know you're here or wait for us to bring your items out. There will be a table set up outside the library's main entrance, and your items will be bagged and waiting for you on this table by the start of your time block. You can simply go over to the table, find the bag(s) with your name, and go! Please be sure to wear a mask and maintain 6 feet of social distance if there are others who are also picking up their items at the same time. If you arrive early, please stay back to allow library staff time to safely put out the new batch of items.
If you miss your pickup time window, please contact us to reschedule. If we don't hear anything from you after you miss a pick up, we will hold your items for 2 days, after which they will be checked in and returned to the shelves.
What to do with returns:
Once the library reopens to the public on May 3, we still ask that you return as many items as possible in our outdoor book drops, however, we will have a return bin available inside near the library entrance as well. All items must be returned in one of these two places. The book return slots near the Circulation Desk will be closed, and returns will not be accepted directly at the desk.
When we are not open for browsing, all returns must go in the outdoor book drops. We will not be accepting any returns at the holds pick up table. If you have a big or bulky item to return that won't fit in the book drop, please contact library staff, and we will let you know how you should handle that return.
